Back on the bike for 2013!

Yes, I’m in the saddle again every day (weather permitting!) training for yet another punishing (but pleasurable!) year of cycle challenges (see below), all in the name of charity – raising money to make life better for those in need. So I implore you to dig deep and contribute a few dollars to these very worthy causes. I am personally sponsored by Mission Beach Rotary, and all donations are made direct to and managed by the club. For details of how to help, please go to the Donations page on this website, and then click on the Donations icon – or simply click on the Donations icon on this page. Thank you.

1. Banish the Black Dog Charity Bike Ride

Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th May 2013

The Banish the Black Dog 260km Charity Bike Ride is promoted by the Rotary Club of Townsville Central to raise awareness of mental health issues in our community, and to raise funds to aid research into the causes and treatments of mental health disorders. The major donation recipient from the Ride is Australian Rotary Health, the largest non-government mental health research funding organization in Australia. The Club also supports local initiatives in the treatment and support of those suffering mental illnesses.

Townsville’s inaugural Banish the Black Dog Bike Ride was held in 2009 and received magnificent support with 85 riders raising over $22 000. Over the past four years the number of riders has grown and last year attracted 115 entries. Over $180,000 has been raised for the research of mental health issues as well as support for local mental health organisations.

On a personal note, any money I raise this year for Australian Rotary Health will be in addition to the $40,000 I raised for the cause on the Great Australian Bike Ride in 2009.

2. Seven Day Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride
